Bebow Books at Grimms Etc.
I spent years, while raising children, satisfying my artistic bent by acting, directing and writing plays. I wrote my first movie script based on my favorite novel in 1975; in 1993 I gained access to the world of Bonanza through contact with its producer/creator, David Dortort. After three years, while writing scripts for him, I convinced him I could write Bonanza material and became the next authorized Bonanza novelist; they are now in 2nd and 3rd editions. I continue to work on movie scripts and have won some minor awards. My first Bonanza novel, Felling of the Sons, won two awards—a first and a second place—and has been used as required college reading. Yes, I am an award winner! I don’t trade on it, though.
My biggest passions are cultural integrity, historical truth, environment protection, and understanding our spiritual selves. Since 2003 I have driven a variety of hybrids. You’ll see my spiritual devotion to the environment in all my work.
I believe that, to be considered a good writer, you need a publishing contract and yet currently I am only self-published. (I have several blogs that explain this and will also post more on historical myth-busting, so stay tuned!) I received some academic interest in Michigan: Copper Artifact Resource Manual but they would not pay royalties. I have since published two more. I had two publishers for three novels, but allowed the Solstice contract to lapse because the novel need a new direction and more intense edit to fit the trilogy “Journal of an Undead.” Two other novels were published by All Things that Matter Press, but the second was poorly executed so I broke all contact with them.
Civil War & Bloody Peace: Following Orders, a major nonfiction I worked on in my history master’s program (earned in 2006), had to be self published. After 20 years of research to pull it together and 10 years of querying publishers, all I got were conflicting excuses, without a single attempt to understand the project. I wrote From Lincoln to Trump for the 2020 campaign year; now planning a 3rd edition. My publisher for the two Bonanza novels retired so I did new edits and put them out. Dancing with Cannibals, co-authored, ended on Amazon when my co-author got tired of waiting. My most recent nonfiction book was considered too local even for the state publisher. But I gave two presentations and had some fabulous sales on Pensaukee: Voice of a Landscape.
I’ve given presentations all around the country with two scheduled this year. I am is an agented commercial actress with Milwaukee and Chicago talent agencies; two were re-licensed to run a second year. I love to travel and generally go solo; my latest adventure took me to Crete, where I created the photo to be the cover of “Journal of an Undead: Love Stories.” I dream of going back to Greece, and also to Germany to ride the Grimm trail of my ancestors. My third novel to republish, “Grimm’s American Fairy Tales,” will be out this spring.
My main goal in writing is to create, not just an enjoyable read, but a read that will remain on the reader’s bookshelf, to be read again.
